Herbs

Ethnobotanical research consistently demonstrates that traditional herbs woven into daily life, cuisine and healing practices carry significant evidence-based therapeutic merit.

This article was documented in 2000 during my time in the Middle East,  when herbal remedies were largely met with skepticism by mainstream medicine and considered outside the boundaries of conventional science.

These time-honored botanicals have since captured the attention of the scientific community. Contemporary pharmacological and clinical research is focused on the efficacy of the herbs and is extensively validated for their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and adaptogenic properties — transforming once-dismissed remedies into subjects of serious academic and medical inquiry.

Yet perhaps the most compelling evidence was always hiding in plain sight — generations of consistent, purposeful use across centuries and cultures. Twenty-five years on, these herbs remain as relevant to integrative health practice today as they were to those who first discovered their healing potential.
